Richard Callander - Langruth, MB

Richard hails from Langruth Manitoba where he is self employed as a rancher and ferrier. Richard's racing career began in 1971 as a chariot and Ben-Hur driver, traveling with Bill Smith back in the day running 48" ponies with no barreling. His wagon racing started some years later in 1977 and has been very active and competitive since. Richard son Denton joined him on the racing circuit when he was 14 until his choice of university in Ontario made it impossible to continue racing. April (his daughter) is a very active and competitive barrel racer. Although Richard has won many show and year end trophies the highlight of his career came in 2006 when he won the Northwest Round-up, also receiving fastest one day time of the show, as well as winning the Dash for Cash.

As well as being president of the IPCCC club for many racing seasons, Richard competes in most of the shows through out Manitoba and Saskatchewan and can be found early in the morning and late at night by the ring of his anvil as he forms another shoe for the competitions horses.

This will be Richards third year at Canadian Championships and he is looking forward to another successful attempt at the races and social life offered at Vegerville.
